Getting There

Bang Onsen Hot Spring Resort is located in Kim Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province. From the city centre of Dong Hoi, take the Ho Chi Minh Highway south for approximately 60 km until you reach Thanh Bang Crossroads. From there, turn west and continue for another 12 km to reach the Bang hot spring (within Kim Thuy commune, Le Thuy district). The road is fairly easy to travel, so you can drive yourself, take a bus, or rent a self-drive vehicle with ease.

Introduction to Bang Onsen

Bang Onsen is home to the only hot spring in Vietnam that reaches temperatures of up to 105°C (while most other hot springs only reach 70–80°C). The further upstream you go, the hotter the water becomes. Along the flow, steam rises from bubbling mounds where the water boils above 100°C. Despite development, the Bang stream retains its untouched, mystical beauty, winding quietly through hills and trees, carrying a strong and distinctive sulphur scent.

The water is crystal clear, but caution is advised as some sections are extremely hot and unsafe to touch directly. Billows of steam rise thickly into the air, creating a dreamlike landscape rarely found in real life.

Strangely, some shrubs continue to thrive amidst the steaming hot water—an unusual phenomenon that puzzles many visitors. Both banks of the stream are lined with lush primary forest. Around 300 metres downstream lies a natural hot water bathing area, where the hot spring merges with cooler waters, resulting in temperatures around 40°C—perfect for soaking, bathing, or swimming.

• Cay Bong Village Onsen 3: A family-friendly zone especially for children, featuring water slides and fun water-based activities. This area includes a water park with safe water temperatures for kids and trained lifeguards on duty. It also has a restaurant complex that caters to local visitors.
