07:30 – 08:00: Pick-up by vehicle and guide from your hotel in the Phong Nha area. Then gather at the Ruc Mon Adventure office for a briefing and equipment check before departure.
The journey to Ruc Mon (in Truong Hoa Commune) is around 45 km, travelling along the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail, passing Khe Gat Airfield, a historic site. In 1972, aircraft taking off from here reportedly carried out successful missions against the U.S. Navy’s Seventh Fleet.
The vehicle then continues over Da Deo Pass, known as a severe hotspot during the Vietnam War.
09:30 - Arrive at Yen Phu Village, Truong Hoa Commune, home to the Chut ethnic community. Visit Yen Phu Lake and the “King Kong” film set area, then begin a ~5 km trek through wide fields and clear streams where fish can often be seen. This is considered one of the easiest and most scenic trekking routes among exploration tours in the Phong Nha–Ke Bang area.
10:30 - Reach the cave entrance, rest, and enjoy lunch prepared by local people. Vegetarian/vegan meals are available upon request.
12:00 - After lunch and a short break, hike up a ~300 m slope to reach a side entrance of Ruc Mon Cave and start the dry-cave exploration. You will climb through three cave levels, including sections that require ascending rock faces over 10 metres using supported ladder systems.
From the dry cave, descend by ladder to the kayak landing point. If you enjoy adrenaline, you may jump from a 5 m height into the cool underground river (optional, subject to guide approval and conditions). After a safety briefing, you will kayak and explore nearly 1 km of the underground river inside the cave.
16:30 – 17:00: Kayak back, enjoy views at the cave entrance, rest, change clothes, and have a light snack and drinks. Trek back to Yen Phu Village and finish the programme.
