I still can’t believe I’m actually back in my homeland this National Day—after so many years away. Watching the boat racing festival on the emerald waters of the Kiên Giang River this morning, my heart felt both stunned and alive: the brightly painted boats cutting through the water in perfect rhythm, the resounding drumbeats echoing across the riverbanks, and the cheers rising like waves of joy and pride. And then arriving at the humble childhood home of General Võ Nguyên Giáp—simple, three-roomed and nestled quietly in An Xá Village—felt like stepping into a living memory. Standing there, surrounded by green trees and echoes of the past, I felt a deep swell of gratitude and awe for the life of a man who gave everything for our nation. As a traveler nourished by a blend of my foreign life and my Vietnamese roots, this journey has been unexpectedly emotional. Today’s vivid river festival, mingled with the reflection at the General’s memorial, wove together wonder, pride, and a gentle melancholy that only homecoming can inspire. Wishing everyone—near or far—a heartfelt Chúc mừng Quốc Khánh. May the spirit of unity, cultural heritage, and shared history continue to bind us together. From across the miles, I carry you in my heart.
