Son Doong Cave

Son Doong Cave was discovered in 1991 and publicly announced in 2009. In deep inside the tropical forest of Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, the biggest chamber of Son Doong is over 5km long, 200m high and 150m wide. With its tremendous dimensions, Son Dong takes over Deer Cave of Malaysia (2km length, 90m wide, 100m high) to keep the record as the world’s largest cave.

The cave runs for approximately 9km and is punctuated by two large doline which are areas where ceiling of the cave have collapsed. The doline allow sunlight enter to the sections of the cave to create the environment for the growth of vegetation and animal life inside the cave.  The cave have many kinds of column structure in which the biggest column of stalagmite is up to 70m tall. It seem as the world's tallest one.  There are existence of some kinds of karst types and fossil inside the cave.
